[SOUND] Welcome to your Lean and Agile Project Management series. I'm your show host, Cherokee Boose and this a really exciting new certification. So you guys might not have been able to research ahead of time, so we have the expert, the developer in house today. Her name is Dr. Tara. And she's gonna tell us a little bit about where to take the exam, how to take the exam, what to study for the exam. So thank you for being here today Doctor. >> Thank you Cherokee. >> What do we look at? We decide that we wanna work in project management or maybe this is a requirement for a company that I work for. So where do I begin? >> Well the new Lean and Agile Project Management Certification right now is only offered through SSV Global, and that's my company, but, over the next couple of months it'll be offered by other entities. So that's the first thing that you wanna keep in mind. It's based on the book Lean and Agile Project Management. And the concept behind it is that there's traditional project management that can be made better, faster, more cost effective by using Lean and Agile tools. So that's the concept. So the very first thing that we did is we leaned out the project management lifecycle. And we call it the project lifecycle composite. So different bodies of knowledge have different phases that are supposed to be recognized in the model. We really linked that out. So even if you don't have a background in project management, you can now look at a project and manage it in a very structured way. However, within that structure, within that framework, you can use lean and agile tools to make any project that you're working on better, faster, more cost effective. What I think is really valuable about this course is that if you're managing some household projects as well, not just IT projects or projects for your company in general, you can use this kind of structure to work through your personal life as well. So what you do for this particular certification is that you would go to our website at SSD global solutions, you would locate the ITProTV student link, which is right on the home page. And there are some prerequisites that you need to do in order to sit for the exam. One of the major prerequisites would be satisfied by watching this series because that's the educational requirement. So you would sign an affidavit that you did, in fact, watch all of the shows in the series. But there are some reading assignments with some questions and answers. We do require that you submit a project. However, we give you the template. We want you to submit a project using the new PLC, the Project Life Cycle. You can rework an old project. If you don't have a project, we have hundreds of projects available that you can work on that are actually real projects, so that kinda makes it more fun. And then you sit for the exam. Once you pass the exam, you are considered LAPM level one. There's only going to be two levels to the LAPM, there's a lot of interest in the industry right now. So you would be on the cutting edge. And I think one of the sort of the advantages for ITProTV students is that, if you come in and take the test within the next few months, there really are no continuing education things that you have to do to keep the certification. The certification is your certification for life. That will be changing as well because since the continuing education credits haven't really been completely developed yet. As people are taking the test before that, they'll be grandfathered. So, I think that's kinda fun. Although, I know everyone out there will want to learn anyway. So if you end up taking the test and still have to do those continuing education credits, I think that they're gonna be valuable to the craft. >> I know, I hope I can find some time to do this. I just have a couple other certifications that I'm looking at as well but having a certification that you don't have to re-certify every few years is a really great concept. >> Yeah, exactly and I think really the take away from this is that as we move forward in this universe. People are starting to realize that we can kind of piece meal things together and just take the best of the best. So being able to make my project better, faster, and more cost effective by using lean and agile tools to do that, I'm touching all these different methodologies. And I think what the LAPM Level one exam buys you on your resume is that if you go into an environment where there's been mergers and acquisitions and everyone's kind of working on their own thing, it's a way that you can say, you know what, I'm familiar with all these methodologies. And maybe I'm not an expert but I get it. And as an IT professional, I think I could work at this company no matter what you're working on. >> So what should we bo looking at, or what are we going to be looking at as we continue through this series? >> Well the first thing that we'll talk about is how to get certified, which we've kind of covered in this segment. But the big thing that we're gonna focus on is that right now there are three bodies of traditional project management. And so it used to be really easy, there used to be one that everyone was pretty much following. But now there's kind of a few different spins. So we took all that information, and we condensed it into our version of the project lifecycle. And we're saying, you know what? In four phases you can hit all the high points. So we're gonna spend a lot of time talking about the actual model to use if you wanna make your projects better, faster and more cost effective. And then of course we're gonna cover lean and agile tools that play into each one of those phases. So for example the first phase of our model is selection, so we have all kinds of selection tools. How do I know I've selected the right project? How do I get by in that type of thing? And then when we move to planning, we remind you of the traditional project management tools because that might be the environment that you go in. But then we talk to you about how lean in and agile plans project so that you have more tools than your tool chest, right? And then we go to the third phase of the model which is execution and we give you tips and tricks. And then, of course, on the student page, there's other handouts that will kind of get you thinking, how can I execute this project in a seamless way? And then finally in closing, we talk about some things such as the 5S Model which is really a Lean Six Sigma Model that agile people are using that helps us keep physically organized. >> Well I don't know about you, but I'm really excited to go ahead and learn this brand new content. And the way that it's been packaged for this brand new certification. So let's go ahead and get started. If you plan on learning our Lean and Agile project management, stay tuned. We have some really great information headed your way. See you. [SOUND]
