This series is focused on CompTIA’s Security+ certifications. Security+ is a vendor-neutral certification that is recognized worldwide as a benchmark for information system security best practices. The series is intended for aspiring IT security professionals entering into security. The series follows the CompTIA specified objectives for the SY0-501 exam.

[MUSIC] In this series, we're gonna be looking at CompTIA's, vendor neutral, certification exam, known as Security+. We will, in the overview, dive into, well what is Security+? As well as, who is this course for? We'll also be looking at some of the topics that you can expect to be covered inside of the Security+ series. And, finally, we'll be looking at some of the exam details so when you decide to take that certification exam and sit the hot seat there, you'll be a little bit better prepared. So, let's go ahead, and let's talk about, well, what is Security+ to begin with? Well, Security+, I said is a worldwide accreditation. It's recognized, just by about 126 different countries, or more, across the entire globe. It is the benchmark for the best practices that we see in IT security. It's also recognized by international standards bodies, so the International Organization of Standardization has an ISO accreditation known as 17024. It's also FISMA compliant too, the Federal Information Security Management Act. It's also recognized by the US Military, as well. So keep in mind, if this is something that you want to be involved in, these are some of the things that you can expect to see inside of Security+. All right, so who is Security+ for? Well, anybody who is an aspiring IT professional. If you are looking to learn how to secure information systems, then Security+ is for you. If you're seeking certification, well, then this is the right series for you. It could be that maybe you're just seeking current security techniques and technologies. And if that's the case, then the Security+ SY0501 exam is going to be where it's at. Next, what are we going to cover inside of this exam. Well I kind of mentioned, briefly there, the exam code these are the new objectives as of October. This is the objectives for exam SY0501. We're gonna be looking at things like the fundamental IT security concepts. We'll also be taking a look at some of the principle risk management concepts. Things like the host based and network based security techniques. As well as things like your introductory compliance and operational concepts. We'll also be looking at different things like threats and vulnerabilities. We'll be looking at, not only threats and vulnerabilities, but also attacks. We'll look at some of the technologies and tools you can expect to see if you're making your way into an IT security field. We'll also be looking at things like architecture and design, very important in today's information systems. We'll be looking at identity and access management, a very important concept today when we talk about enterprise based networks. As well as the basics of risk management and then finally we'll be talking about cryptology and public key infrastructure. Now, if you are getting into the exam, there's some things you might need to know about it. One of the things that we want to look at is that the exam format is 90 questions in 90 minutes. It's multiple choice or performance-based questions. When we look at performance-based questions, understand that that does imply that there could be simulations, so be prepared for that. Now the passing score for your Security+ exam is gonna be 750 and that's a passing score out of a range from 100 to 900. As far as we know right now, the Security+ exam is going to cost you $320 U.S. dollars. It is recommended that you have CompTIA's Net+ and two year's IT administration experience. However, keep in mind that that is recommend but it is not a necessity before hand. It's not a pre-requisite to you taking the actual exam, it's just a recommendation. So, if these are some of the concepts and these are some of the goals that you have to become IT security certified and prove the knowledge that you have competency and security techniques in how to secure information systems, then the CompTIA Security+ SY0501 series is for you.
